How this is calculated
- Listing fee: $0.20 per listing. Listings with several in stock renew at $0.20 after each sale, so the calculator counts $0.20 per order.
- Transaction fee = 6.5% × (item price + shipping you charge). For U.S. sellers it isn't charged on sales tax.
- Payment processing = 3% × (item + shipping + sales tax) + $0.25, the U.S. rate in the Etsy Payments fee table.
- Offsite Ads = 15% or 12% × (item + shipping), capped at $100, only on orders that came from an Etsy offsite ad.
- Currency conversion = 2.5% × (item + shipping) when the listing currency differs from your payout currency.
- You keep = item + shipping − all fees. Profit = you keep − cost to make − packaging − postage − hands-on minutes ÷ 60 × wage.
- Price for your target solves the same formula for the item price that leaves your target profit. Break-even is that price with a $0 target.
Not included: the one-time shop setup fee (Etsy shows it during onboarding), Etsy Ads you buy yourself, Etsy Plus ($10/month) or Pattern ($15/month) subscriptions, Regulatory Operating fees in some countries, deposit fees outside the U.S., refunds, and income tax.

Questions
How much does Etsy take from a $20 sale with free shipping?
$2.35, or 11.75% of the sale, for a U.S. shop with no sales tax and no Offsite Ads: $0.20 listing fee + $1.30 transaction fee (6.5%) + $0.85 payment processing (3% + $0.25). If the order came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, add $3.00, for $5.35 in total. Fee rates from Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy (updated Oct 5, 2026) and Etsy Payments Policy (updated Jul 31, 2026).
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus whatever you charge for shipping and gift wrapping. The payment processing fee (3% + $0.25 in the U.S.) applies to the whole order, including shipping and sales tax.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
When a buyer clicks an Etsy-placed ad off Etsy and orders within 30 days, you pay 15% of that order if your shop sold less than $10,000 in the prior 365 days (you can opt out while under the threshold), or 12% once you've reached $10,000 (participation is then required). The fee is capped at $100 per order.
